Physiotherapy in Nottingham

Physiotherapy is a "hands on" manual therapy and is a well proven approach to the  treatment of the joints, muscles, tendons, nerves, ligaments and fascia.

Through professional training Physiotherapists understand how and why these structures move and why pain and injury occur.

It uses a combination of techniques, such as manual therapy, electrotherapy, exercise therapy, pain management and pacing to reduce pain, joint stiffness, decrease abnormal stress on joints and soft tissues, correct muscle imbalance, improve local circulation and soft tissue continuity. For more information about Physiotherapy you may refer to The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy website www.csp.org.uk

What to expect

This will involve an interview regarding the onset, history of the symptoms and details of your general health, followed by a physical examination looking at posture, quality of movement, strength, joint integrity, neurological testing and palpation.
The main purpose of this consultation is to establish the nature of the condition, provide advice on management and to set out aims and plan the physiotherapy treatment.

If the problem is not suitable for physiotherapy intervention then referral to an appropriate healthcare professional will be discussed.

Further treatment sessions will last approximately 30 minutes and will involve specific treatment and reassessment. It is likely that an a home exercise programme will provided to enable self management and assist recovery.
